Details
UBE1 activiates ubiquitin, acting as the first step in the E1/E2/E3 cascade-mediated protein ubiquitination. UBE1 activates ubiquitin by first adenylating its C-terminal glycine residue with ATP, and thereafter linking this residue to the side chain of a cysteine residue in E1, yielding a ubiquitin-E1 thioester and free AMP. E1 activated Ub is then transferred to an E2 enzyme.
