Ataxin 3 is a member of the MJD subfamily of DUBs. DUBs are categorized into 5 subfamilies: USP, UCH, OTU, MJD, and JAMM. Involved in protein homeostasis maintenance, transcription, cytoskeleton regulation, myogenesis and degradation of misfolded chaperone substrates.
